I spent some time this weekend adding information to existing pages on this site (e.g. see the revised "Was Wallace a believer in Spiritualism?" on http://wallacefund.info/faqs-myths-misconceptions), as well as trying to improve the appearance of the site. I also created two new image galleries:- Animals & Plants and Artwork by Wallace. The former contains illustrations of some of the vast number of species discovered by and/or named after Wallace, whilst the latter contains a selection of beautiful watercolour sketches which Wallace painted whilst he was in Sarawak (Borneo) and Sulawesi. Although some of these paintings were reproduced in black and white in Peter Raby's 2001 book Alfred Russel Wallace, A Life (Princeton NJ: Princeton University Press; London: Chatto & Windus. 340 pp.) very few people have ever seen colour versions of them. I thank Peter and Richard Wallace for allowing me to make images of them available. Unfortunately the originals of these wonderful paintings currently can't be located (they were in a private collection) - let's hope they are eventually found!
Other things new on the site are this excellent cartoon by Ainsley Seago (thanks for allowing me to use it Ainsley), a poem about Wallace by Anne Cluysenaar (thanks Anne for dedicating it to me!) from Anne's recently published book Batu-Angas: Envisioning Nature with Alfred Russel Wallace, and this redesigned blog-like News & Views page with an RSS feed which reports on it (thanks very much to Ed Baker for doing this). Also designed by Ed is the relatively new interactive map showing the locations of most of the houses which Wallace lived in in England and Wales, which also includes links to photos of the properties. Note that you must zoom in to see all the Hertford and London houses. Also note that in rare cases where I could not locate a house precisely I have placed the marker in the near vicinity of it (e.g. in the middle of the road that it is in).
