Award of the bronze Wallace Medal

On the 2nd July 2015, after delivering the Wallace Correspondence Project's Annual Wallace Lecture at London's Natural History Museum, Richard Milner was awarded the Wallace Memorial Fund's bronze Wallace Medal, for his outstanding contributions to the public understanding of Wallace's life and work.

Richard is an Associate in Anthropology at the American Museum of Natural History, and the director of the Wallace Centenary Celebration project. This project has been running since 2013 - the 100th anniversary of Wallace's death, and so far Richard and his colleagues have organised important public conferences on Wallace at the American Museum of Natural History, the University of Californian in Los Angeles, and the North Carolina Museum of Science. Richard's Wallace Project, which is funded by the John Templeton Foundation, has also provided funding to the Wallace Correspondence Project (currently based at the Natural History Museum, London) and to Charles Smith's important website of Wallace's published writings. Richard is currently co-editing special Wallace issues of Natural History and Skeptic magazines, which will be published later this year.

Richard is also a Darwin scholar, and has published an excellent book called Darwin’s Universe: Evolution from A to Z. His other books include The Encyclopedia of Evolution and The Artist Who Saw Through Time  - which is a tribute to his boyhood hero, paleoartist Charles R. Knight. To cap it all, Richard is also a performer and has given performances of his one-man musical, “Charles Darwin: Live & In Concert,” all over the world.
