I am very pleased to see that Indonesia is continuing to promote Wallace - especially his historic link to the island of Ternate (i.e. the island he posted his essay on natural selection to Darwin from in 1858). See below for a news report, which can also be read in its original form HERE.

Ternate, N. Maluku (ANTARA News) - US Ambassador to Indonesia Cameron R. Hume attended the three-day Wallace Young Scientists Conference which kicked off here Friday.
He was present at the conference along with 10 American botanists held in the North Maluku provincial capital city.
Ternate city mayor Syamsir Andili told 58 participating scientists coming from Indonesia and abroad that the conference brought "strategic values" to the area.
Andili said the meeting was expected to recommend Ternate to be one of the scientific holiday resorts in Indonesia.
The conference would also introduce Ternate as one of valuable research sites of international botanists since 18 centuries ago.
"The Ternate city government will fully support the efforts to make our area a research destination," he said.
After the conference`s opening session, Ambassador Hume and all participating scientists visited some historical sites around Ternate, including the house of Alfred Russel Wallace.
The local city government had planned to make the Wallace house a museum. The street where the house was located had also been named "Alfred Russel Wallace".
