A polished black granite plaque commemorating Alfred Russel Wallace's discovery of natural selection in February 1858, was unveiled on the 5th October 2024 at the place he made his great discovery: Dodinga village, Halmahera Island, Moluccas, Indonesia. This was a collaborative project between the North Moluccan Government (Indonesia), the Wallace Memorial Fund (UK), SeaTrek Saling Adventures (Indonesia), Wallacea Nature (Indonesia), and the people of Dodinga Village.
The QR code at the bottom of the information board near the plaque links to this page, the purpose of which is to provide more details about Wallace, his scientific work and the plaque project.

THE PROJECT TEAM
North Moluccan Government:
Samsuddin Abdul Kadir, Governor of North Moluccas: provided the majority of the funding for the project.
Kris Syamsudin, Deputy Head of North Moluccas Tourism, and his team: responsible for managing the project, organised the erection of the plaque and Information Board, organising the unveiling ceremony, and much more.
SeaTrek Sailing Adventures:
Commissioned and paid for the plaque; sponsored Bill Wallace and his wife's trips to Dodinga.
Jeni Kardinal: designed the plaque and its base.
Wallace Memorial Fund:
George Beccaloni: helped to set up the project; wrote the English text for the plaque and Information Board.
Wallacea Nature:
Simon Purser: coordinated with British Embassy and British Council; designed the Information Board; helped to write invitations and many other documents.
Dodinga Villages:
Mayor of Dodinga, and his team: constructed the base for the plaque, erected the Information Board, helped to arrange the unveiling ceremony.
