Revision of 2013 Anniversary from Thu, 2014-01-02 12:38

Wallace100 logoWallace100 logo2013 was the 100th anniversary of Wallace's death (he died on the 7th November 1913) and a huge number of events around the world took place to celebrate his life and work. This page aims to list the more notable of these.

The London Natural History Museum played a central role in coordinating and supporting what it called the Wallace100 anniversary celebrations. It designed the logo seen in the top corners of this page, which it encouraged others to freely use to publicise the anniversary; it hosted an informative blog; it maintained an events page, on which all known Wallace-related events taking place worldwide were listed (this page has been taken down but the list of events can be seen HERE); it organised a conference; a lecture series featuring monthly talks about Wallace; and an exhibition featuring Wallace specimens and artifacts. The Museum launched its Wallace100 events programme on the 24th January 2013, with the unveiling by Bill Bailey of a portrait of Wallace (see a video of this HERE). It ended on the 7th November with the unveiling by Sir David Attenborough of the bronze statue of Wallace which the Wallace Memorial Fund donated to the Museum (see a video of this event HERE).
