Lives in Kensington Cottage, Usk, Monmouthshire (Wallace was born here).

late 1828/early 1829-early 1837

Five childhood homes in Hertford and Hertford Grammar School (leaves school aged 14 on 18 March 1837).

early 1837-summer 1837

Lives with his brother John in Robert Street, London.

summer 1837-December 1843

Works as a land-surveyor with brother William and travels widely in England and Wales. Becomes interested in botany in c. 1842 in Neath. 

early 1844-Easter 1845

Boards in the Headmaster’s House at the Collegiate School, Leicester. Meets Henry Walter Bates.

Easter 1845-early 1848

William dies. Moves to Neath, Wales (he initially lodges with Mr Sims; then rents Llantwit Cottage).

26 April 1848-1 October 1852

Spends four years traveling in South America with Bates.

early October-Christmas 1852

Rents 43 Upper Albany Street, London.

Christmas 1852-26 January 1854 Rents 44 Upper Albany Street, London.

4 March 1854-31 March 1862

Spends eight years traveling in South East Asia and whilst there writes his famous "Sarawak Law" (1855) and "Ternate" (1858) papers. He leaves Singapore for England on the 8th February 1862.

Stays with his sister and her husband at 5 Westbourne Grove Terrace, London.

Rents 9 St. Mark’s Crescent, Regent’s Park, London.

Stays at Treeps in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex (Wallace’s father-in-law’s house).

Lives in The Dell, Grays, Essex, the first of three houses he had built.

Rents Rose Hill, Dorking, Surrey.

Rents, then buys Corfe View, Parkstone, Dorset.

18/20 September 1902-mid-November 1902 Stays in house in 57 York Road, Broadstone, Dorset owned by Jane Clark.

mid-November 1902-7 November 1913

Lives in Old Orchard, Broadstone, Dorset, the third house he built (Wallace dies here and was buried in Broadstone cemetery on 10 November 1913).
