NATURAL SELECTION AND BEYOND BOOK LAUNCHES

Next month sees the publication of my book (co-edited with Charles Smith of Western Kentucky University, USA) Natural Selection and Beyond: The Intellectual Legacy of Alfred Russel Wallace by Oxford University Press (see http://www.oup.com/uk/catalogue/?ci=9780199239160). As the blurb in the advertising leaflet says "This rich collection of writings by more than twenty historians and scientists reviews and reflects on the work that made Wallace famous in his own time, and a figure of extraordinary influence and continuing interest today".

There will be two book launches. Cover of Smith & Beccaloni book

The first will take place at a one day conference on Wallace which will be held at the Linnean Society on Saturday November 22. Speakers are: Charles Smith; David Collard (Bath Uni.); Roy Davies (London College of Communication); Peter Raby (Cambridge Uni.), and myself (George Beccaloni). The meeting will be chaired by Aubrey Manning (Edinburgh Uni.) and it is being organised by the Scientific & Medical Network. To download a leaflet (which includes a booking form) see

http://www.scimednet.org/conference_pages/08_Wallace_conference.htm. There are only 90 places in total and many have already gone, so if you want to attend then sign up soon!

A second launch of the book will take place a few days later on Wednesday November 26 at the Singapore Science Centre (SSC), between 10 am and 12 noon. It is being arranged by Oxford Fajar Sdn Bhd (OUP), SSC, the Singapore National Parks Board and the National University of Singapore. There will be a introductory talk by Dr Chew Tuan Chiong and The Earl of Cranbrook will give the keynote speech.
