Another Wallace plaque is unveiled

Miguel Sousa and Gaynor Jayne from the University of Glamorgan in Wales, UK, recently informed me that the commemorative plaque which the Wallace Fund sent to the University last year was recently unveiled in a building which has been named after Wallace. Gaynor writes:

"The University of Glamorgan's new home for Science and Sports students was officially opened on 30th April and will be known as the Alfred Russel Wallace building.  The grade II listed former grammar school was officially opened by Dr Kim Howells, former MP for Pontypridd.  This impressive new facility on the Glyntaff campus provides a state-of-the-art learning environment for future scientists.  A Plaque will be placed in a prominent position with an explanation of Wallace's great achievements."

I thank Miguel and Gaynor for letting me know about the unveiling of their University's plaque. Several of the other organisations which the Wallace Fund generously donated plaques to (or at least subsidised the cost of) have not had the courtesy to let the Fund know what they have done with them. In the case of the plaque sent to Broadstone Library (Broadstone, Dorset) we only heard about the ceremony to unveil it after somone happened to see an article about it in a local newspaper! And of course there was no mention that the Wallace Fund was responsible for producing the plaque - which is a shame considering the large amount of time and effort I put into the project on behalf of the Fund.
